THE POTENCY OF WORDS

Do you know that words are the conduit of our reality? When you change your words, you will change your life. Many people are not conscious of how mighty the words we speak are, once they do, they will know how to maximize it. The words of some are the root cause of their problems. You create with words and you destroy with words.

Why do words carry potency/power?

Word carries power because it is being said by a spirit being who came to be as a result of the Spirit of God in dust making “man”. Therefore, our words are living. Words are not simply sound waves. Sound waves are not powerful. Spirit is powerful. God created man in His image and breathed the breath of life into him. It is the breath of life of God that makes man a living soul and because he is carrying in him the breath of the Creator, he is a god.

Genesis 2:7, NIV

Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 1:26, NIV

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

John 6:63, NIV

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you — they are full of the Spirit and life.

Psalm 82:6, NIV

“I said, ‘You are “gods”; you are all sons of the Most High.’

So as God created by words, a man also creates by words. Whenever God wants something done, He speaks “words” then after that “He saw” (meaning what he spoke came into existence). He spoke the entire universe into being (Genesis 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26).

Hebrews 11:3, NIV

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Proverbs 18:20–21, NIV

A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips, he shall be filled. The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Matthew 12:37, ESV

For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

The stakes are high, people. Your words can either speak life, or your words can speak death. Our tongues can build others up, or they can tear them down.

Ephesians 4:29, ESV

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Proverbs 12:18, ESV

There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

There is so much potency in our words such that careless usage of it will be judged. Bad words have damaged relationships. Many homes have been destroyed due to bad usage of words on partners and children. Children especially grow up and get their self-worth from the label parents have placed on them by words. Good words build people up and make them better. A study showed that children from families with professional backgrounds heard six encouragements for every discouragement, the ratio for children from working-class families was two encouragements for every discouragement while for children from families in poverty, the ratio was two discouragements for every encouragement. We can all see the effects on the children from these categories when they grow up. I dislike when parents say abusive things to their children due to being angered, it is dangerous for their future.

Matthew 12:36, ESV

I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak.

Proverbs 15:1, ESV

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 16:24, ESV

Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.

Words are living and active. It is a fact that the people who engage in spirituality know and use it. One thing you should know is that the spiritual governs the physical. Why do you think people who seek for powers and those in power involve in spiritual things and take it seriously? When people in the kingdom of darkness want to harm a man. They do not go about carrying guns, no. They send words errand by releasing it into the atmosphere and it will reach any geographical location moving more than the speed of light.

I would want to admonish you to begin to take cognizance of your words today, knowing how to use it, declaring positive things about yourself and you will be amazed by the transformation that will take place in your life. It should not be a once-off thing but a lifestyle as some changes do not occur immediately but over time. With such action, you have shaped your future.

Some of you may say, oh she’s talking on a religious perspective, it has been proven, it is a principle that if used by a believer or non-believer it works.

Dr. Masaru Emoto, a pseudo-scientist gave physical proof that our thoughts, intentions, and words affect the physical world. He said “words are the vibrations of nature. Therefore, beautiful words create beautiful nature. Ugly words create an ugly nature. This is the root of the universe.” His study clearly shows how the power of positivity can transform anything into our physical reality. He uses water as an example and since human beings are made up primarily of 60–75% water, water has a direct effect on us. He demonstrated the power of human words and thought, using an uncommon technique: a rice experiment, yes, a rice experiment (strange right, but interesting).

He placed rice into three glass beakers and filled the beakers with enough water to submerge the rice. To the first beaker, he pasted the phrase (in Japanese): “Thank you,” “You’re an idiot” to the second, and ignores the third. A month later, the rice that was thanked fermented and gave a pleasant smell. The rice that was insulted turned black. Finally, the rice that was ignored began to rot (See Plate 1). It’s amazing how the jar with positive words was still white and fresh when in our reality we would at least believe that it would of a surety start to go bad. Amazing! That’s the power of positivity at work. Do you now buy into the concept of positivity and why it is so important to apply it to your everyday life? Psychologists have repeatedly shown that our mindset and words have a profound effect on our bodies and those around us. Dr. Emoto believes from his study that our mind and speech affect the elements of our Universe.

He further went to study how the molecular structure in water transforms when it is exposed to human words, thoughts, sounds, and intentions. He demonstrated how water exposed to loving, benevolent, and compassionate human intention results in aesthetically pleasing physical molecular formations in the water, while water exposed to fearful and discordant human intentions results in disconnected, disfigured, and “unpleasant” physical molecular formations. He did this through Magnetic Resonance Analysis technology and high-speed photographs. What was more interesting was the picture of water that was prayed on, it gave a beautiful image.

See Plate 2a & b, for water crystal photographs from Dr. Emoto’s work. Each water crystal you see was exposed to the word attached to the picture before being photographed.

The power, human thoughts, sounds, and intentions strengthens, and disempower is one of the greatest discoveries of our time. His work made many to start questioning that if the water is affected by the words, intentions, and energies, what about human beings, who are made of mostly water? If we transform the water and thoughts we are made of, what else is possible?

Testimonial

Recently, I called a sister of mine who was pregnant and told her that I see her having a supernatural delivery, mind you that was her third baby. I gave her a book, Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize. I kept praying with her and encouraging her, making confessions of having a supernatural delivery. I didn’t know she took it so seriously. She read the book and started making the confessions in it. At the close of her delivery when she started having contractions, she said she started declaring that she shall dilate fast. She was saying this through the night. When her husband saw her contracting, he told her it was time to go to the hospital, but she was saying she will wait till the following morning. He forced her to the hospital so there wouldn’t be an issue. On getting to the hospital, she was checked, and the midwife discovered her opening was 6 cm already but didn’t disclose to her. In less than an hour of arriving at the hospital, she gave birth to a bouncing baby boy without any induction. She was astonished because for her earlier pregnancies, she labored for over 12 hrs. She called me the following day and said I have gotten my supernatural childbirth. I was excited and it encouraged my faith the more when she told me about her confessions and birthing experience.

Romans 10:17, ESV

So, faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Her pregnancy story is an interesting one, I was in church one day and just felt to pray for her to have a baby (mind you, pregnancy was not even on her mind), the following day I sent her a text that I prayed for her to conceive but she shouldn’t say anything other than “be it unto me according to Your Word” and she did exactly that. The following month, I got to know that she was pregnant. If she had said any statement to counter what I had prayed, do you know she might not have conceived, that was what the Spirit of the Lord made me understand? Remember Zachariah in the bible, when the angel came to deliver a message to him that his wife was going to conceive, he started philosophizing. The angel realized if this guy continues blabbing, he can use his mouth to delay what God wants to do so he made him dumb. So also, many have short-changed their testimonies by the words of their mouth and thoughts.

Yes, words are powerful, but they can have more potency and efficacy if you have Christ in you (a believer) because as men the efficacy of our words was reduced when man fell in the beginning. Then you have the Creator Himself backing you up because of His Holy Spirit in you. And there are levels to this. The more intimate you are with God, the more potent your words become (Samuel, Elijah, Moses, Paul, Benny Hinn, Pastor E. A. Adeboye are all examples and many more).

I want to encourage you to begin to use your words to speak gracious things. Speak positive words and God’s word to that situation in your life and around you every day and you will see a change in your life. I leave you with these words from Dr. Cindy Trimm, “watch your words, they become your actions which becomes your habit and in turn becomes your character and finally your destiny”.

THE END
